This photo was taken at the 2014 Art Tougeau Parade in Lawrence, KS, at the end of May. One of the many, many parades each year in Lawrence, this one is maybe the most creative. Lots of people work all year on making their chosen transportation device into something very unique and imaginative. This photo was also a practice in using textures. Though I’m not wholly satisfied with this, I wanted to share it and get some feedback. To me, the street seemed too empty and seemed to take up so much space in the photo. I typically do not crop and in this case, I didn’t want to lose any of the beautiful sky.

This photo was taken shortly after sunrise in late July. What attracted me to this scene was the dramatic clouds as the sun rose above the horizon. Scenes like this are fun because as the sun rises, the colors reflected off the clouds are constantly changing; this image was only there for about 5 seconds before it looked totally different.

This image was recorded in North Lawrence, just to the east of the train station. The textures and grittiness of the objects in the foreground make for good contrast. I wasn’t very happy with the image being just black and white, so I decided to add some split-toned color to the final image.

”How can the life of such a man
Be in the palm of some fool’s hand ?
To see him obviously framed
Couldn’t help but make me feel ashamed to live in a land
Where justice is a game.” -B. Dylan

This long exposure was taken at the local county fair this past August. The fast, circular movement made interesting light trails on both sides of the ride. I decided to go with a split-toned image, leaving the slider to the highlight side, to accentuate the fast moving lights.

This photo was taken on the west side of the lake, located in the southeast area of Lawrence, KS. The park is a great place to watch nature or to take a nice walk. There are plenty of paved paths and natural trails around the small lake.

Taken at a cow pasture in mid-October, 2014, this subject seemed like a nice subject in the early dawn light. The dew attracted me to the wire and I’d like to re-explore this again with a macro lens.

Now with ice! This photo comes from the same shoot as my last photo posted, sunset on 2014-11-13, near the Coon Creek boat ramp at Clinton Lake, just outside of Lawrence, KS.
